Javert frowned and balled up his right fist and then loosened it. He looked away. It was just as before. It unnerved him then and as it did now. He was nothing like the convicts he had grown up with or hunted down.
"HOW CAN YOU KEEP SAYING THAT?" he roared. "YOU'RE ALWAYS PREACHING HOW YOU CAN FORGIVE DESPITE WHAT'S HAPPENED! I DON'T UNDERSTAND!"
Pain and confusion filled his expression. He escaped his world because he couldn't understand. And now he was being forced to try and understand. He should have left the other trapped.
