FOURTH WALL EVENT; CAMP CATCH ME DEAD
JULY & AUGUST EVENT: CAMP CATCH ME DEAD
Content Warnings: This event is for a summer camp themed bonding game and may include death themes, psychological influences, changes in behavior and emotion, physical and mental age regression, and any number of thread-specific warnings. Please warn in your toplevels for anything in particular, and feel free to use this code if you'd like to make a collapsible prompt in your comment.
This event has an area of effect and will transform only the Garden. The Hotels, Pride/Greed and Humility/Charity rings and the hotel rings, as well as any player businesses, will be unaffected.
There is an optional age change effect associated with this effect. In order to participate in camp activities to earn Activity Tickets, Current and Temporary guests to the hotel (i.e. player characters) may change between three different Camper age groups, a Junior Counselor age group, or their regular age and form. It is up to you whether or not characters retain memories of their life experiences when changing age groups, but they should remain aware that they are in the afterlife and at camp.
Rocket Scouts cover age equivalents of human ages 4-7,
Starry Scouts the equivalents of human ages 8-12,
Solar Scouts ages 13-15,
Junior Counselors are 16+ and are expected to help other campers with their activities in addition to anything they might want to do themselves. You can be any variety of ages, including your normal age, while being a Jr Counselor; so if your character is 40, you can explore being both a 16yo jr counselor and a 25yo jr counselor, but as long as they are over 16 they would only be able to do Junior Counselor-rated activities.
Each scout rank wears an identifying badge shaped like a Rocket, 5-pointed Star, Sun, or a moon (for the junior counselors).
It's still summer in the Garden of Good and Evil, but the set dressing has changed dramatically since the end of Mermay. Where there once was a grand pool and simulated beach is now a grand forest that seems to span further than you can imagine walking.
This is no ordinary forest, though. The flora and fauna aren't made of anything that looks natural; they're knit, woven, macrame'd, felted. Fuzzy, fluffy leaves cradle gleaming and often glimmering silicone-like fruits and plastic pine cones. The fauna that populates the forest are all made of craft materials too; bears with construction paper strip fur, puffball birds and tinsel-tailed squirrels— even the little bugs that move around just like real insects are all made of the teensiest pipe cleaners and cut and folded papers. In the middle of this strange stitched together forest is a lake and a large clearing; the lake of the Fountain of Good and Evil, surrounded by the brand new Camp Otherside sponsored by Jam's Club.
Camp Otherside is a Heaven-run effort in attempts to influence visitors in a more uplifting and positive way! Your newoverseers counselors are here to encourage bonding, openness, and introspection to help you discover and actualize your best self in death! However, a few Hellish Counselors have been consulted too, since there are still so many Hell-Raised Hotel Guests. That's equity, baby! Probably.
The top Counselors are mostly around to supervise and help you out with activities you can't seem to manage on your own, and prevent any accidents. For the most part, campers are expected to choose activities independently and to get out there and work together! In order to encourage this, time has been changed in the garden. Campers may experience their stay at camp at many different ages over time, allowing them to enjoy experiences they might have missed growing up! No matter how much you plead with the cherubs and imps leading the event, they don't seem to see an issue with this. However, to keep you safe, Cherub counselors won't let younger campers leave even with their hall passes. You'll have to wait until you're back to normal to get back to your room in Heaven or Hell!

Newbies Guide
Never been here to Heckin' before? Don't worry about it. This is a sandboxy crack game that's not too serious, but the focus is on character bonding, growth, and getting better or worse using Heavenly and Hellish influences. The game has aspects both in some other world's Heaven and Hell, but Temporary Hotel Guests (aka you, the test drivers) are only allowed to go around the garden for this test drive!
Your character will show up in a Camp Otherside uniform and with whatever Heavenly or Hellish changes you'd like. You can skip the changes for the test drive too, and get them started once you're in game instead. You can even use the test drive to try out different forms before you app! Many people take a furry or Hazbin Hotel/Helluvaboss influenced design, but you're not at all limited to that or even required to have any changes at all.
What about physical needs and the passage of time? Well, time doesn't mean anything real in death, and while most people experience time linearly it isn't actually passing linearly. Multiple prompts can occur at once because of this! You are welcome to play with the idea of no longer having needs to fill, but many characters experience of heaven and hell still includes feelings of hunger and thirst. You're welcome to also play with the idea of them still physically aging and changing according to their own perceptions of time passing and their own personal growth, or to keep them perfectly stationary in death.
By the way, since this is a 4th wall style event, humanization of characters is not required (and is never required at Heckin). The age changes aren't required either; unchanged age folks can participate in anything Jr Counselors can. Finally, powers aren't nerfed either, but Angelic Counselors will collar anyone who uses their super powerful abilities to cause harm.
Daily Life at Camp
Rise and shine, campers! The bugles are playing at Camp Otherside, and you've woken up in a bunk bed in the Big Big House Cabin! If you're a Long-stay guest, you'll have a hall pass with your things on your nightstands— and "your things" for everyone include a personalized Camping Kit with a backpack, an instant-process camera (more details later), a first aid tin (filled with plastic sticker bandages), a "fire kit" that appears to be a flocked plastic branch and a little plastic rock with a divot in it, some survival-grade polyester rope, a lighter that produces a plastic flame when struck (but said flame does light up and get pretty warm somehow...), a small terrarium with bug catching tools, a uniform consisting of a very comfy T-shirt and sporty gym shorts, and a badge sash. All the components of the backpack are stylized to each character's taste, and inside the nightstands each of them will find the equipment needed to pitch a personal tent if they so choose. Your tent is micro-packed and includes a sleeping bag, all able to collapse down and fit snug in your backpack without adding too much weight. It is heaven, after all.
It's a pretty cool setup, but everyone sleeps here in the Big Big House Cabin, apparently. Yeah, everyone who's been invited to the camp at all. According to the counselors, if you'd like a more private setup or you just want to share a smaller space with friends, you can do so by earning your Pro Tent badge. Apparently the tents of campers who work together on this badge will magically join together into bigger, more deluxe tents the more people pitch in— but if you really must sleep alone, your counselors will let you have your solo tent. Fine.
Showers are mostly gender neutral and communal, but there are a few stalls in the shower cabin, too. There are separate dressing rooms from the showers (also gender neutral) with a few changing curtains, just to keep all the wets separate from the dry.
Feeling hungry? Free meals are served twice a day— but what if you're feeling snacky, or need a third meal? Heavenbucks won't serve you at camp! What you need to get your dinner and as many snacks as you want are Activity Tickets, earned by participating in camp activities with your co-campers. Participation is always rewarded here at Camp Otherside!
How's the weather? Nice and sunny and summery, for the most part! Maybe even a touch humid. However, it rains lightly all day on Thursdays, encouraging campers to spend time doing indoor or in-tent activities.
Every Saturday, the Heavenly counselors host a barbecue! There's meat and meat alternatives, and even the chance to grill on small personal grills. You won't need activity tickets to eat on Saturday!
Wh— your phones? You're asking about your phones at camp?!
...Well, fine, yes. Your phones all work, and they're still connected to the Afterlife Internet. However, Temporary campers will not have access to the greater internet (such as sinstagram posts) and will only be able to text their new friends at camp on theirs... or to use the Camp-Only Tik-tok network where they can post videos of their experiences and share them only within the camp community!
OOCly this just means you can still make network posts and text each other, even while at camp.
Oh, by the way, there are Nights and Days at camp, even if time still doesn't feel very real. That means there's definitely opportunities to get up to things that the angelic counselors won't encourage, like pranks, skinny dipping, and improper use of tents. Angelic Counselors won't like you guys doing these things... but Demon counselors will love it! Hell yeah!
Okay okay one last thing— you're probably gonna earn a lot of activity tickets, and you can't just use them on meals, right? Right! That's why you can use them at the Rewards Counter to earn things like toys, games, and hand-held fireworks to play with your friends! They've got hair clips! They've got sticky hands! They've got the good crayons! Go ahead. Use your tickets up here!
Camp Activities
SOME WORK AND THEN PLAY (for Jr Counselors Only)
Alright, big kids, first things first: you don't have to watch after your fellow campers to earn your activity tickets. No, you can help out in other ways to earn your meals! Namely— by helping serve other campers theirs.
Work in the camp mess hall and provide lunch and dinner to your fellows! Maybe even cook! Or perhaps you're cleaning out the showers, if you don't like to handle food. No matter what the role, anything you can do as a Jr Counselor counts... toward earning activity tickets and badges! And, of course, to developing you.
...Fine, yeah, you can also get rewards at the rewards counter, too, jeez.
INSTANT CAMERA CAPTURE (Scrapbooking Activity + Mini Memoryshare for all age campers)
During the entire camp, there's an all-hours accessible scrapbooking station in a cabin next to the mess hall! It's got a ton of supplies for you to use, and everyone gets a scrapbook to keep at the end of camp, so long as they fill one up.
That instant camera you got in your backpack is exactly for this purpose. There's no end to the film, you don't have to reload, and your pictures develop whether or not you shake them! In just thirty to sixty seconds, you'll have a tiny, retro-core shot with a peelable back in case you'd like to stick it to your scrapbook. Use your cameras to catch all the key moments you'd like to keep in your scrapbooks with your new friends.
...You might not want to go overboard, though. See, every once in a while, the picture you snap might be rather special. Instead of developing a picture, it'll develop a short memory of the subject of the photo. For example, if you're taking a selfie with a friend, you and your friend might relive one of your own memories! But if you take a picture of your friend doing something, you might witness their memory with them.
The memories are always fairly short, just a glimpse— in fact, no more than sixty seconds long. They can be about anything from scary moments to mundane scenes. If you're stuck, try to use your prompts to set up chances for others to take pictures of yours to share the memory, or even take selfies together!
This activity has a bonus prize for those staying in the hotel. Share memories three times during the two-month long event, and your character will be able to keep their camera afterward, sans memory-share function. Your character can also keep their scrapbook whether or not they actually end up memory sharing.
PAIR/TRIO FISHING FOR DINNER (for Starry & Solar Scouts + Junior Counselors)
The cuisine at the mess hall is pretty standard multi-universal fare— the kind one would expect at any summer camp. Nuggies, macaroni, that kind of kid-quality food. But that doesn't mean it's the only stuff available.
Head down to the lake and hop in a boat with up to two friends and get fishing if you want to reel in a better dinner. Don't worry if you don't have friends yet; the cherub counselors are dying to play match maker. Does it seem a bit weird under the water...? And aren't these fishing poles just toys...? Well, of course! You're not reeling in trout to filet, you're reeling in muppet-mouthed snapper fish filled with coupons for greater and grander meals!
There's a few catches, though. For one, not every fish is a prize winner! Several have just the message "SORRY! TRY AGAIN!" printed in their mouths— throw those right back in the water. It'll take a few catches to reel in a winner.
But these fish also don't behave like normal fish. They're Chatterchomps, the counselors explain, and they're drawn to the sound of people talking, not the opposite! You'll have to talk to the people you're sharing a boat with to draw in any fish at all. If there's a prolonged silence, the Chatterchomps won't bite, and you won't get your special dinner ticket!
OTHER LAKE ACTIVITIES (for all age campers)
Earning activity tickets just for having fun? That's the whole point of Camp Otherside, according to the Cherubic counselors! Since the weather is kept at a bright and sunny temperature at Camp Otherside, it's always a perfect time to take a dip in the lake.
Chatterchomps won't chomp you, luckily. The lake is pretty massive, and in its center stands the Fountain of Milk and Honey. There's enough room on the lake for a few boats and kayaks, some inflatable floats, and there's even a bouncy platform just off the pier! Lifeguard cherubs are on staff day or night, and you might recognize some of those floats from the jungle last log...
And since you've all lost your tails from Mermay, the angels have been kind enough to provide you with tasteful sporty swimsuits adorned with Camp Otherside's sunset logo.
OUT ON THE TRAIL (Starry & Solar Scouts and Junior Counselors only)
It's camping time, so you should have the chance to actually go out into the wilderness and camp! If you choose to embark on Camp Otherside's Afterglow Trail, you'll get a foraging guide, a hiking jacket and pants, hiking gloves and boots, a walking stick with a personalized wrist strap, and of course you'll have your tent kit and backpack from your bunk!
The trail winds around through the forest surrounding the camp, up to a peak on Mount Passerby, where a plateau waits for stargazing, grilling, and tent-pitching. But in order to get to the top of the trail, and in order to have anything to eat you'll have to forage through this strange toy forest. Don't worry— it may all look like beautiful craft supplies, but the edible plants in the area are all delicious and have the taste and texture of real food. You'll need to use your available senses to match plants to your Foraging Guide, pick out Salt-and-Pepper Plants, Glittering Honey, Spiraled Herbs, Lattice-cut Lettuce, Hearty Roots, and other tasty sounding plants to bring to the cookpot on the peak's plateau.
Then, just throw all your ingredients in the pot and it'll magically turn into a serving of the best stew you've ever had, perfect to pick you up during the high altitude's balmy night.
Foraging isn't the only challenge you'll face along the Afterglow Trail, though. Those scrapbook looking beasties of the forest are eager to challenge you... to camp games. Arm wrestle with the bears. Play soccer against the deer. You... might have to just outrun the squirrels because man, are they tricky. And if you're not up for a camp game, they might actually want to fight!
Maybe if you offer to share some of your hard-foraged food with them, they'll let you pass without trouble? Well, the foxes will tell you straight up— all they want out of you are some of your Blueing Berries!
When you do make it to the top, your stew and tent grounds await. And if you'd like to make your trek back down the mountain, you can certainly take the trail back— or you can take the Slide System, which is indeed just a system of slides and bridges that give you a beautiful view of a waterfall on your way down.
FRIENDSHIP BRACELET MAKING (minor psychological effects. all age campers)
Need to decompress and just do an activity? Feel like making a lasting memory of your bond with another person here at camp? Just beside the scrapbooking station is a bracelet making station. There are tools and supplies for making a variety of different kinds of bracelets; simple strings and beads for pros, all varieties of colors of hemp and embroidery floss, and even bracelet blanks with easy fasteners for those who might find it tough to tie knots and add findings.
When you touch the materials for this activity, you'll be filled with a sense of calm, the kind many people get from doing things like organizing beads by color or other asmr activities. It might not exactly be a compulsion to form bonds, but perhaps feeling so calm will make you feel more open to talking with others at the station...
ROCKETEERING (Rocket Scouts only)
There sure are a lot of spaces for the big kids, huh? Downstairs under the mess hall, though, there's a giant playground exclusively for the youngest campers to come hang out. The equipment is all meant to look like little rocketships, with platforms and wheels to turn and slides and all sorts of things.
Half of the playground is a soft and bouncy surface under a sheet of simulated stars. This bouncy surface is a bright grey-white and shaped like craters of the moon! It's a fun place to play, but it absorbs sound well too, and it's pretty comfy. You could get a pretty good nap in over here. The comfiest place in camp is reserved for its smallest campers.
This is the only playground that is never affected by Thursday's rain.
A REAL PLAYGROUND (Rocket, Starry, and Solar Scouts only)
For those who'd rather play outside, t's time to get away from the junior counselors and have some real fun! Just behind the mess hall is a massive playground with jungle gyms, slides, monkey bars, and all manner of playground equipment. And? The plastic doesn't get burning hot in the summer heat!
If that wasn't enough fun, there are water pistol stations all over the playground with empty water pistols hanging from a rack beside them. They're the simple, clear plastic cheap kind and run out of water fast, but they're still fun to strike your friends with! Just be careful not to break out into a playground war....
COOL KIDS ONLY (Junior Counselors only)
The aforementioned Teens have to get some time alone too, and what better way than their own clubhouse? Out on the other side of the lake toward the forest is an old abandoned school bus with part of the side pulled out and a number of the benches situated outside of it. Those benches now surround a little fire pit. On the inside of the school bus a few benches still remain with some tables between them. Somehow there seems to be electricity hooked up; there are very small lamps to light up the tables at night, a mini fridge in the back, and a TV constantly tuned to Heaven's greatest telenovelas.
It's the perfect place for any Teens (or literal adults sucked into this mess) to get some alone time away from any smaller campers— or away from being younger campers. Since only junior counselors can hang out here, you'll always find yourself reverting to that age when you come to hang out.
Other Camp Notes
This is a Heaven run event, and as such, the camp counselor cherubs will be doing everything in their power to prevent you from killing each other again. However, camping is not without hazards. There are great heights, the possibility of fires and drowning, and no guarantee the wild animals won't go after you!
As such, Heaven Counselors will revive anyone who takes damage that a character would consider fatal in their own worlds instantly. The moment the damage is taken, you'll pop back into existence at the campground's flag pole in a burst of confetti, good as new! It's the least they can do, they assure, to let you have a fun and free-willed experience.
If you can think of other camp activities, you're entitled to play with them! Roast marshmallows over flickering plastic camp fires that function like real fire! Do camp pranks! Whatever you want.
TLDR;
-Characters can end up different ages when participating in different activities. It's up to you how aware they remain of their memories and other people, but they should always retain that they are here in the afterlife and at summercamp in a safe place.
-you can change ages as much as you'd like. You have two months to thread out event stuff, so no worries!
-Characters are all bunking together— every last one of them— in the Big Big House Cabin! Buuut they can section off into smaller groups or camp solo by using provided tents. Work together and link up tents, and they'll upgrade into bigger and better ones!
-There are lots of activities to participate in! Participation gets you extra and tastier meals.
-It's sunny for the most part, but balmy and autumny on top of the Mountain, and rains every Thursday. There's a barbecue cookout every Saturday.
-Activities include a Scrapbooking/Camera Memoryshare, team fishing, swimming and boating, hiking, friendship bracelet making, and playgrounds/club houses for different age groups.
-it is possible to die again in the garden, but revival is instant.
OOC NOTES
This is your JULY AND AUGUST FOURTH WALL EVENT CATCHALL! Use it for whatever you want, as many times as you want, as long as what happens takes place here in July and August. If we reach overflow, a new log will be made.
Players who are in-game already will also have a log in the locked comm to play out things in the rest of the hotel. All facilities on the Hotel levels and beyond are restricted to in-game players, and you won't be able to take temporary campers with you to those areas. In-game campers can come and go from camp freely using hall passes.
Remember, all effects are OPT-IN and characters who are unaffected by the age effects will be counted as "Junior Counselors" even if they older than the age range. They'll be able to participate in any activities they'd like.

Chatterchomps!
[ Want a little buddy? Or maybe an older buddy, a bratty teenager who doesn't want to talk to the likes of you?Well, Riddle will be pairing up with people to do this one several times, at several ages! Maybe you're paired up with little 8 year old Riddle, who is shy as ever. Or, maybe you're paired up with 15 year old Riddle, who seems to turn up his chin at the very idea that he needs your help. Either way, he's ready to get in that boat and get going!
So hurry up and help him catch some prizes! ]
Rocketeering
[ The small kitten (he has definitely not always been a little beastman...) is found curled up, taking a nap somewhere a little hidden. He hadn't played at all when he climbed in to this small space, and in fact, he avoided other children, wandering around until he found a good spot to curl up.Are you going to wake him? Nap with him? Try to get him to play? Or, maybe you'll wait until he wakes up, then ask to play! He's going to take some convincing, though! ]
Closed Prompts under here!
Two Scarred Kids - For Leona
[ There were... a lot of activities to choose from. Maybe too many, for a child who was so scared, so timid. Riddle, really, looked very small for the age he was. Somewhere around 9, this little Starry Scout was one of the smallest of the bunch, clearly trying to keep himself busy with any and all indoor activities -- to the point where one set of counselors decided he needed a buddy, and to do an activity with him.So that's how little Riddle ends up staring at the Afterglow Trail in front of him, standing next to a Starry Scout he very very very vaguely recognizes, with his New Hiking Gear and a little hat on his head, backpack resting on his back comfortably. He looks small with it, even if it's Magic and Not Actually Too Large. ]
... um...
[ Okay, deep breath Riddle... he turns, to look up towards his companion-- ]
We... got this. I'll look out for you on the trail, okay? You can count on me.
[ He's trying so damn hard. But he's also clearly a little daunted by the whole.... of the situation. The whole everything.
still. he's offering his hand. ]
Alone on the Trail - For Yoojin
[ What better than an overconfident child going on his own to try and conquer Afterglow Trail? ...Not to mention he's only around 8 here, and definitely should not be on his own after being such a sheltered boy. But here he is, stepping along with all the confidence in the world.Or, well. He would be, if he were any older. In actuality, he looks a little scared, a little lost, and... ]
Che'nya? Trey? Are you two out there? We... can go together! But-- but don't leave me here...
[ Seems to be convinced he might be able to find some friends of his out there, but too nervous to go too far himself, even if he is slowly wandering further and further down the trail.
Did someone tell him friends are in the forest and he misinterpreted? Or, did he see something that looked vaguely like one of his friends and followed? Who knows. ]
[ OOC: I only have a few prompts written out, but feel free to send me a wildcard or another starter if we've spoke about something!!!!!!! I want to do everything, thanks KFDJSHSFD ]
maybe i'll put more open prompts here. or i'll delete this comment.
other closed prompts will go here as i plot them
Alone on the Trail
He flies as low as he can over Mt. Passerby's plasticky pines so as not to miss anything. When he hears a small voice and catches a glimpse of shockingly bright red down below, he pulls up short, hovers for just a second, and then descends softly a few yards up the trail, where Riddle can see him.
The wings, he folds mostly out of sight. They're symbolic-looking, just a pattern of curved lines in the air. They're meant to be eyes, though. If any of them open, they'll look pretty creepy.
Yoojin crouches, not because Riddle's so small (though he is, he's itty bitty and has such a look of worry), but because he feels his own height in a way he rarely has the opportunity to. He smiles a little, not overly bright, but relieved to have found--well, someone. Someone who clearly needs not to be alone.]
Hi there, bud. Don't be scared, it's okay. I'm Yoojin, one of the counselors. [The moon-shaped badge on his camp uniform corroborates that statement. He's one of the junior counselors, at least.] Would you happen to be Riddle?
no subject
He stands there quietly, his eyes darting away only to try and assess his situation and his exits. Where can he run, where can he hide? He isn't allowed to use magic on civilians, so... he can't... use that if he needs to.
Then Yoojin speaks, and Riddle tilts his head to one side. Oh. A counselor...
His eyes then scan for that badge, for any indication of the truth. Once it's seen, he wanders a bit closer. Slowly but surely inching closer and closer... until finally he's close enough. That is, not close enough for Yoojin to grab him or anything, but close enough to give himself a good look of the counselor, to make sure he was who he said he was. ]
I... um... I'm supposed to ask who you are and how you know my name.... b- but you already said.
[ He's going through a playbook in his head, of how this is supposed to go. ]
Can... you prove you are who you say you are? With, um... maybe... [ He's thinking, his little brows knitting together. ] ... I don't know. But I cannot and will not say if I am or am not Riddle before you do!!
no subject
Wow. You're pretty meticulous, huh? Ah, that's a good thing! It means you're smart and careful. Not a lot of kids are, at your age.
[The boy looks about six or seven years old to Yoojin's eye, but the head counselors and the badge on Riddle's sash say he's a Starry Scout. He has to be at least eight. His own little brother wasn't so cautious at that age, but then, Yoohyun hadn't been this small, either. Yoojin rubs the back of his neck, wondering how best to go about putting the child at ease.]
The other counselors realized they didn't know where you were, so they asked those of us who can fly to take a look around. [So that's at least why he knows Riddle's name to ask for him.] Uh, hmmm, how do I prove my identity to someone who's never met me? I don't have my Hunter's license or my phone--oh, my phone!
[He takes out his pink, heaven-themed smartphone and plunks his butt properly down on the ground. After navigating a couple screens, he turns it around to show Riddle, holding it out in both hands. Like this, he won't easily be able to snatch Riddle, even if he gets closer to look.]
See? It's registered in my name, Han Yoojin. And there's a picture of me there, too. As for proving I'm a counselor... well, I have some activity tickets from doing stuff earlier. Only camp people get those, right?
no subject
He listens to the story, waiting as the phone is pulled out. Recognition, slightly, at the heaven-theming, and the little cat ears on his head twitch, his tail flicking behind him.
He takes a few more steps forward, too, as Yoojin sits properly onto the ground.
It doesn't take him long to read the registered name. He nods, as if appraising something, bringing his hands together in front of himself. ]
This... this is enough. You explained really thoroughly.
[ Riddle moves even closer, sitting down onto the ground himself, almost directly in front of Yoojin. He offers one hand, as if asking for a handshake. ]
Um... yes, my name is Riddle. Riddle Rosehearts. Mister Yoojin, it is nice to meet you. A- And... I didn't cause trouble for anyone did I? I... I- I should apologize.
[ He looks scared, really, that he did something wrong. His shoulders are all tense, even as he continues to offer that handshake. His bottom lip shakes, his eyes still so wide. He knows he messed up... how can he fix it? ]
no subject
No, it's okay! There's no trouble. Folks are just worried about you, that's all. These things happen.
[Especially when the counselors are pretty much letting the kids do their own thing, not shuttling them in herds from activity to activity. Of course babies are wandering off and getting lost!]
Here, I'll text them and let them know I found you. In the meantime, are you okay? You aren't hurt anywhere, are you? Or hungry?
[He tap tap taps at his phone to let the head counselors know the missing child crisis has been averted. The way the poor kid looks, he wants them calmed all the way down before Riddle rejoins the party. He doesn't need overfussiness to make him feel worse.]
no subject
People are worried... he worried people by wandering off... maybe he should have told someone first, but this felt more pressing!
... Why? He can't remember yet, not when he's focused on the questions he's being asked. ]
I am alright... no injuries!
[ He lifts his hands up, showing them off as if to show that he didn't get hurt anywhere. Then, placing them back into his own lap, he continues, ]
Do you have snacks? Or maybe you can reach one of the shiny apples up in the tree? Apples are on the list of things I'm allowed to have, but I can't use magic to get it down, and I didn't want to climb up.
no subject
Maybe Riddle has food allergies. Still, that offhand remark pings Yoojin loudly and powerfully. It's not something he's going to forget.
That thought passes in a blink, and Yoojin's back to his easy expression and tone of voice. He turns to look up at the tree with the shiny apples, then gives Riddle a confident nod.]
Sure! If an apple's what you want, Riddle, an apple's what I'll getcha. Gimme just a sec.
[There's no real point climbing when he can fly, since Riddle will be able to see his wings either way. Yoojin flutters up into the branches, seeks and finds a real nice red one, and brings the fruit back down to Riddle. It kind of looks fake? But it smells all right when he gives it a sniff. He offers it to Riddle.]
Can you hold this while I get my water bottle to wash it off? If you want it sliced, though, it'll have to wait until we're down the mountain. I didn't bring a knife.
no subject
As it's offered, he still seems somewhat nervous but... he takes it into both of his small hands, bringing it close to his chest. ]
I don't need it sliced.
[ He answers, nodding slightly. He can handle this task - it seemed simple enough. Hold onto this apple until Yoojin was ready, then he could hand it off! Easy! All he has to do is wait now, right? ]
Did you always have wings? Before you died, I mean.
[ ... and he wouldn't be Riddle if he didn't ask what was on his mind, his eyes still watching Yoojin cautiously. ]

Two Scarred Kids
I'm definitely the older one here,
[and the bigger one, too. nevertheless, he grabs Riddle's hand.]
So don't go running off. I'm not getting in trouble if you go wandering by yourself.
no subject
Riddle's little shoulders tense, and his hand squeezes the other's, despite that tension coming from his harder words. ]
I- I won't...
[ Riddle seems to shrink just a tad, falling quieter as he looks around. So, they have to follow the trail, then they should be able to slowly make their way to the top to make their camp. They'll need to forage and cook and... do so many things together that Riddle has no idea how to even START.
So he does by... taking the first step, despite his nerves. ]
no subject
at least he's not looking after a complete baby.]
Do you have your guide out?
no subject
[ The smaller 'beastman' nods, despite not being looked at. He wants to make sure the older boy knows he's being responsible! His free hand is already holding the little guide, his eyes beginning to scan it and glance between said guide and their surroundings. ]
I... should be able to remember what we need if you give me a minute. Without having the guide out.
... I don't want to slow you down...
no subject
[well, if he can do it, Leona will be impressed.]
That would be helpful, wouldn't it?
[in truth, Leona doesn't actually mind having to reference the book this time. mostly, because it's a completely new book. it's absurd to have edible plants that are made of crafts, but the book is laid out just like any real foraging guide... he has to give whoever made it credit, he supposes.]
Well, if you're going to read it, walk in front of me.
[he lets Riddle's hand drop, slowing his pace. that way, he can keep an eye on Riddle, see the guide over his shoulder, and let Riddle turn his pages. ]
no subject
[ Riddle nods, as his hand is dropped and as he's given that little order. He doesn't need to be told twice. In fact, he takes a few steps forward, stepping in front of Leona, holding the book up with both of his hands. It's clear he's never exactly walked while reading....
but even so, is the speed at which he's reading this even conducive to learning?!
He's murmuring something under his breath, too, as if he's creating his own way to remember what each plant looks like, and why they needed it. A system. Blueing Berries with their ocean deep blue, then the shape of the Spiraling Herbs and Lattice-cut Lettuce.
He's already halfway through. ]
no subject
this kid is on fire, isn't he? interesting. maybe he can do it. in fact, Leona is listening to his murmuring, too. he catches Riddle's system as he builds it.
and behind Riddle, where he can't be seen, Leona starts to smile.]

But he's already been asked to lead another activity so he's out gathering small children when he sees a head of red hair that looks far too familiar. There was no way it could be who he thinks it is, this is a beast child, but still he has to take a moment to get a better look.]
Hey there... I need some more kids to finger paint with. Would you like to come help me out?
no subject
His own voice? That would be able to be clocked by Trey for sure, if his memory served right. ]
U-mm... [ Does the Starry Scout badge look out of place on him? Absolutely it does. But it also places him somewhere around the very age that they met, around the age of the incident. Who knows if this is before or after, just yet. ] I don't... I don't know how.
no subject
I can show you, if you want. I bet you will have fun with it, if you give it a try.
no subject
[ Riddle keeps his eyes cast down, until the older one bends down, closer to him now. His eyes lift, and then widen, as he looks up at this person who... looked so familiar. So similar to someone he knew, someone younger than this one appeared. ]
Why do you look like him? You're not him. You can't be. But you... you look like him.
[ He brings his hands closer to himself, clasped againt his chest. At least the reaction seemed set at confused rather than upset or mad?
Also he's completely forgot now about fingerpainting. ]
no subject
[Trey immediately puts his hands up to slow this kid down before he gets completely overwrought. There's a good chance after hearing Riddle recognize him too in the other direction that he can finally untangle this.]
You look a lot like my friend, but much younger. So I bet that makes you Riddle Rosehearts, because I'm Trey Clover.
But the you I remember is older than you are now. So I think we're having some time magic happen to us.
[There's probably a more elegant way to say that, but he wants to make sure it's on a level Riddle will understand.]
And if you still want to do something, I have another activity I want to share with someone and I think you would be perfect for it.
no subject
[ Time magic. Okay, less known and more difficult than almost any to cast, so the camp people must be really poweful. That, however, is besides the point. The point, here, is that he's gotten his own suspicion confirmed.
With a quiet gasp, he ambles closer, slow but more sure of his movements now. ]
You said friend. We're still friends when we're older? That's so cool, I thought you and Che'nya were just saying stuff, that you didn't actually mean staying friends forever and ever.
[ Anyways, yeah, he's nodding, practically pleading to know what the activity would be. ]
no subject
Yeah, we go to the same school and everything. And Che'nya is just on the other side of the island from us. And even better; you have a lot of other friends at school, too.
[He offers a hand to Riddle to take so they can go where Trey is intending to take him for this activity. It might not be appropriate to just pick him up, even if that's what Trey's first instinct was.]
I need someone to make some cut out paper flowers with me. I was going to make some roses, does that sound fun?
