TDM 004: BACK TO SCHOOL

A: Garden Level - Fall IN!
[The garden is full of fruits and overflowing with milk and honey as usual, truly a paradise. But gasp, what's this? A PALLET CHANGE? Instead of the typical lush green, it's taken on more Autumn colors for AestheticTM. It's still pleasantly warm as usual though, for current denizens and newbies alike, and it's gosh darn nice to hang out in.
But speaking of newbies and passerbys! If you pop in, you'll find yourself landing in a pile of colorful leaves. But these ain't no normal leaves!! Depending on the color, you may experience the following:
Yellow- Get energized nerd!! Despite just dying, you're suddenly filled to the brim with joy, and far more amicable to the first people you see.
Orange- Ever heard of love at first sight?? IT'S HAPPENING NOW. You may become absolutely smitten with the first few folks that help you out of your pile.
Red- Or the complete opposite! You're filled with the POWER OF AGGRO and ready to argue or fight with whoever you see first!
Or maybe you fall in a pile of mixed leaves that give you a combo of effects, or nullify the effect so nothing happens! Up to you. ]

B, Hell Level: Spooky Scary Skeletons
[Down at the HellRaiser hotel, it's already practically halloween 24/7, but now even more so! The standard hellish hotel amenities are available--massages, hot saunas, all the booze and drugs you could ever want, room service, etc!
But the perpetual night life is where it's at. In celebration of the most unholy season of the year (citation needed), the clubs are HOPPING and playing music loud enough it could raise the (un)dead. . .literally! You could be walking on your way back from getting a burger, and skeleton or zombie bursts from the ground! They might attack you or. . .try to get you to dance with them. Weird. Either way, don't linger too long, or they'll try to get you to go back further into the depths with them. . .
Alternatively maybe you're just accosted by some normal party demons/imps and dragged into a club. Have fun!]

C, Heaven Level: The Holy Spirit Halloween
[Heaven-side, the heavenly hotel is its normal, pampering self, complete with every luxurious amenity you could imagine. However, it seems some parts of the hotel are decorated with more. . .demonic accents??
It's not just the hotel either. Outside, spot angels in all sorts of costumes, ranging from black cats to silly godzilla rubber suits. That's right, TIS THE SEASON, and it's the only time angels get to indulge in more silly ~sinful~ desires! Is this cultural appropriation?? Don't worry about it.
As for you, if you're not chillin' at a cat cafe or the gorgeous beach or a coffee shop, you may find a cherub stuffing you into a silly costume. When in Rome!! You may also come across huge golden depots full of costumes, so feel free to shop around! The cherubs within will also see to your every need, as if they're extensions of the hotel as well]

I have basic knowledge of it.

Some things are similar here in architecture and art, to the French paintings ideas of Roman mythology, but it is a bit more humanized. And the sheep angels are different.
Do you know what year you're from? Time is broken here, so it can be really off for everyone.
no subject
It was early 1830s. So a lot of what I've seen already is very new for myself.

So everyone gets a cell phone and they can access social media. Don't worry if it's really hard at first? I struggled a lot with it too. I was very sheltered, so my parents didn't let me have all this, my Aunt introduced me to it. [Easier than explaining literal angel etc.]
Do you have any hobbies or passions? You can look them up. And talk to people all around the world.

[Javert was little surprised by this news and there was brief moment of shock in his expression before he forced it to neutral.]
Cell phone? [That was the strange device he was given? He frowned.]
I tend to work mostly. I'm afraid I don't have any hobbies.
no subject
I completely understand. I was the same way. I only started really doing hobby things for my job. It helps people meet each other based on shared interests. So music, movies, books, sports. I'm still incapable of crafts and arts. [Her Aunt's department, so it'd get weird!] You might like reading Crime and Punishment from only a little after your time period, but in Russia? It's free on the phone if you want me to pull it up for you. There's other books like that too. And it might give you ideas on how to enjo-- erm... pass the time while you're here. Or what you can do to make things better? Like doing your job. But in another facet. [Nod!]
Like I don't have everything I'd normally need for my job here. [Sort of. She COULD just shoot people but you know... NOT THE HUMAN WAY ANYWAY!!!] But I can still help people be happy and make friends or enjoy their time here.
And I'm working at the movie theater, because that's what I did in university. Oh right! Movies are like plays, but they're recorded like a book, shown on a flat screen, so you can rewatch them, or show way more people than could fit in one theater. Just be careful with movies in Hell. If I remember right, France was still very strict with arts in your time? It had to be religious or culturally significant, like the Roman statues and paintings?
Hell gets a lot more... lascivious... as you might expect. But it could be a really big culture shock for you I think. Better to start with Heaven's movies. They're much more tame. I can even dig up some religious ones if you want. Or Film Noir? It's a French movie art technique based on investigators solving crimes!

[Javert was completely at lost of a lot of what Lynette was trying to say. Everything was so beyond him. He just tightened his grip around the tea mug. When she brought up his country he was able to focus on that more.]
My country was strict among many things, but yes art was one of them. It's rigid ways of running things is part of why my people suffered and were having a lot of problems.
[He frowned some more, getting lost in her explanations.]
I appreciate you trying to explain, but I'm afraid everything is above my understanding.
no subject
[At the last part, she just offers a tight smile.] Just take it slowly. You've got time to learn things, and catch your balance.
Here, I don't have a business card, but I'll add my name to your contacts, if you want? And then you can tex-- err, write me with questions, okay?
no subject
I thought by becoming a cop, I could do something to help. But all my efforts were wasted.
[Javert finished the last of his tea. His mood soured by his inability to change things or to understand what the other was telling him. He moved to get up to leave, but stopped at her comment. He gave a nod in acceptance and allowed her to add her name to his contacts. He watched as she did so trying to learn how to do it.]
I appreciate your attempt to help explain things.

humans] people to really know their impact on others during their lifetime. You might want to talk to Michael? That's... his specialty. But try not to be too hard on yourself? Don't think of being here as a failure. Just an opportunity. There's still things that need doing here. So I don't think it's a bad thing that your paperwork got messed up.CW: Mentions of Suicide
An opportunity? I killed myself for my failures. I did everything I could do to try to meet to society and it's demands. And I could never meet them. What do you think I can do for a place like this that is supposed to be Hell itself?
[He didn't think she was mocking him, but he also didn't want her pity or her attempting to make things would improve. When he knew they wouldn't.]
no subject
Learn to forgive yourself first. [She seems a lot less like the ditzy human she was trying to convey now. An absolute commandment from a minor deity.]
If it was society's demands, what would you want society to do differently for others like you? Teach that to people trying to reform Hell and the afterlife or use it to inspire people. Charlie and Michael keep talking about the sinner that become redeemed and is in heaven now. But even the archangel of judgement in charge of who goes where doesn't know how it works, so they need help from humans to decide how human society should work best for them.
Too often heaven and the rest are ruled by people with ideas who aren't living in the thick of it and don't understand what it's really like on the ground. That's absolutely something only you can do.
no subject
Do you think if I approach Michael on this subject... he would be able to direct me on what to do? I still don't think it will work, but if you believe that something can be done...I would like to try and work my way to redeeming myself.
no subject
But -- [A small sigh, back to more compassionate:] If you need help for yourself on what to do? I'm probably your best path. In my heaven, I dealt with humans the most of everyone as part of my job. And I found everyone was wrong. The gods were passing rules without being immersed first hand and experiencing human life the same way, so it wasn't working as well for humans as just what they did for themselves.
I'm still considered a baby angel by the Dii Consentes standards, and Michael is kind of like a senior supervisor for me, but I've still studied human psychology, and I'm similar to Charlie, but I've actually lived like a human for the last few years, she hasn't had that chance.
And if nothing else, maybe we can find a collaborative effort that works best for you together.
no subject
[He shook his head, clearly frustrated by the situation.]
If you feel you can find something, then I am willing to try. Although, I don't know what I can do to get people to listen if I couldn't back home.
no subject
[Well, it's still probably closer?] Well, how were you trying there? And here is a lot different.
