TDM 002 / MERMAY EVENT

A: Garden Level - CLEAN UP CREW
[WHUH OH YOU'VE DIED AND ENDED UP IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL. A usually beautiful sight--this time it seems the water from heaven is spilling over! Watch your step or you might get a stream of ocean water cascading atop your head like a prop bucket.
The imps and cherubs are hard at work with a water pump tho!! They've got this, really. "Don't mind us, we're just--doing paperwork! Yep!! THAT'S ALL IT IS."
Reassuring. More alarming, you may have noticed that you've changed. Depending on your alignment, you may have more heavenly or hellish traits.............or just for May, you may have AQUATIC traits. That's not worrying!!
Well as some oldbies get teleported to the garden as well, maybe you can ask them some questions!!]

B: HECK-LING TIMES
[Now if you take the elevator down to Hell's Hotel, it's water free! However you may be IMMEDIATELY assaulted by some imps who try to jab you with a shiv. Standard hell greeting!! Maybe someone intervenes or maybe you can like, just punch them. The sheep imps ain't shit. The rest of the hotel is surprisingly nice though, and if you have a room assignment there, you'll find it honestly pretty accommodating.
BUT OUTSIDE? Oh buddy is it still flooded!! Some imps are working hard to pump the water out, but it has the added effect of creating whirlpools. Get sucked into one and not only will you be tossed and turned like laundry, but there's a chance a MEMORY will be tossed right out of you! This could be anything from forgetting your name, your bestie's face, where you live, whatever! Don't worry, the effect will wear off in a few hours, or until someone finds the memory and gives it back to you (in the form of floating seashells that will float near the whirlpools!)]

C: HEAVENLY SING-A-LONGS
[Take the elevator up, and you step in the luxurious Heavenly Hotel! And you may be IMMEDIATELY assaulted by sheep cherubs spritzing you with perfumes or colognes or dolling up your hair. They're here to serve!! Once you get rid of those pests though, feel free to explore the ludicrously divine amenities of the hotel.
OUTSIDE isn't nearly as flooded as Hell, though the local ocean has still expanded greatly, but instead there's a different problem...........there are crabs. And seagulls. And fish?? Singing. They're singing SO much.
You may find a chorus of sea critters at any point in Heaven abruptly bursting into a kiss-the-girl style musical, accidentally revealing a crush you might have, or a silly secret. Better hope passing angels and other residents aren't listening too hard! Of course you can just punt the annoying creatures away. Or eat them. That's an option too, sure. ]

[Even Darkness might be sick of them by now.]
Well he's not the first person from his world brought to mine, but some of thr things he says makes him sound crazy for completely different reasons. You'll see if you meet him, he's got a knack for getting himself in hot water figuratively.
[Megumin has also been regarded as crazy for years now, so she's not exactly going to judge Nobunaga. He's the good kind of crazy rather than the Axis cult, or the demons who worship chomusuke.]
... Somehow I got that impression from him... I'm glad my instincts are still sharp when it comes to judging people's character.
no subject
[He can't think of anything that prefers goats. Maybe it's just because they can go places harder for others to reach? And toads... too???]
[Annnnd Oda arches an eyebrow.] You'll forgive me, but I'm going to have to ask for specifics. My homeland has many quirks as you might imagine. [.... It's... worse after Nobunaga kind of... changes it....]
[Let's see, piecing together all he knows... It's probably NOT the Megumin-style or her village's quirks, or she wouldn't be able to recognize them as problematic.]
[Of course there's the possibility that Nobunaga himself can't recognize the issues, because he is the epitome of Japanese and even Yato couldn't effectively tell him all the changes Japan went through.]
[Still...]
[Not enthusiasm and the Fool of Owari things Nobunaga thinks, since that made him an outcast even in Japan. If he lines up what he knows of Megumin and contrasts it....]
[Oh no... his deepest fears... The monks and cults and castes winning. But he KNOWS the castes and cults are abolished, so...?]
[Fond of household appliances, rich, but she didn't mention once his strength, skills, or the things Megumin herself probably covers.]
Is he terribly unambitious, and [Fond of austerity? No, Nobunaga abolished that too, and surely the rest of Megumin's companions would hate it!
He pinches the bridge between his eyes. What weird thing could he have fucked up Japan with and by proxy ANOTHER WORLD would still find unappealing?! Peaceful??? Ehhh Megumin herself wouldn't go that way.] reserved??? [Nobunaga tried to move Japan away from that, but who knows? It'd be the opposite of Megumin's world, right? And no matter how he tried to move Japan, it doesn't mean he succeeded.]
no subject
[Oops? Was she supposed to just burst his tangent of a thought process about Kazuma like this?]
Kazuma is kind of unambitious by nature but... it's mostly that he's quite the opposite of reserved. He's crude, rude, and the biggest pervert I've ever met. He's one of the most reliable people I've met when it's important, but otherwise? He's a bit of a degenerate that earned the title of scumbag on many occasions.
no subject
[He's SO PROUD OF JAPAN for producing a rude person OTHER THAN HIMSELF!!!!]
[Except...]
[Degenerate scumbag....]
[Well, better to be reliable, than unreliable and not a scumbag, probably??????????]
[He... he has to think about this.]
I don't know if that's a measure of how far Japan's come or a measure of the man personally.
[There were a lot of harem manga about Nobunaga come to think, but he just took it in stride, because whatever? There's also a ton of manga about him as a woman so Kichou constantly being a woman is just par for the course.]
[JUST HAVE A HEAD TILT MEGUMIN!]
In my time, the monks and castes ruled everything, so that was what I wished to abolish most. I know some of the future, but not well enough. The monks would rather no one was --
[Huh. Would you look at that? For the first time in his life, EVEN WITH OICHI THIS WAS NOT THE CASE, Nobunaga does not want to deal with explaining the sexual mores of Japan. WHAT A WILD AND NEW EXPERIENCE. Where's Klaus when he needs him?! Ehhhh it's probably Nobuanga's fault, he's the unreliable one who left/died early probably.] Interested in anything. Especially anything enjoyable.
[Accurate? Yes. He thinks that's sufficiently stated. It includes candy, not just sex after all. And even to some degree music and weapons and production of goods for trade.] Most of what I've heard of Japan is the games, music, plays, clothes, entertainment that sort of thing. I strove... as hard as you can imagine to make Japan that way. [Even harder than that. Truly, there was nothing he didn't give up or do in order to achieve that better future.] I've always been considered rude and brash myself in Japan, infamously so, and sometimes worried perhaps I would swing the pendulum too far the other direction.
[IS HE A PERVERT?!!?!]
[.... Wait he doesn't want to think about that. AH! That's why!!!] It's... difficult to imagine Japan going so far though. The other Japanese I've met are still fairly polite and more reserved than myself. Ah, but what am I saying? It's not like I wanted Japan to be the same as me, that would be boring. And no universe could handle it. [He's not sure the multiverse can handle one of himself so...] Very well, I shall have to meet this reliable deviant myself and judge accordingly.
I married a cultist though. Klaus, I mentioned. He made his fake religion based around peace and sex instead of war. So with this in mind, I shall guard myself accordingly against bizarre things your companion might say, and not take it too deeply to heart. [TBF It's not like Oda is in danger of being hit on by... anyone. BUT--]
Though I reserve the right to run him through with a sword if he insults you or my men. [Including about Megumin's size! She might not have breasts the size of her head each, but it took a lot of calories to survive on your own! Live strong Megumin.]

coolestbest way for her to do things when all was said and done!]Umm... Well I think I remember Aqua saying that he was kind of a social outcast in his homeland? Which isn't super surprising, since he does do a few dumb things now and then?
[A sex and peace cult?! Good god! That sounds like the Axis cult if she'd ever heard it! Well maybe less peace and more slaying the devil king, so there's that. WAIT THAT'S NOT THE IMPORTANT PART HERE!]
UMM!!! Please don't stab him? Or at least if you do make sure you do it non-lethally? I know he has a big mouth, but he's really pretty important to our party? Not to mention he might be one of my closest friends, and the only one here! He's mostly harmless?!
no subject
[She has no idea what that word means to Nobunaga, but literally everything. He couldn't have friends his whole life in Japan, the closest was 1) missionaries from literally other countries and cultures so they already didn't believe in the castes and positions of Japan's social structures 2) the very very bottom castes who had nothing to lose, but also it was still strained because he couldn't just be himself or not try to fix it and 3) his own generals, whom Klaus said were like his siblings, but that itself is deeply complicated for Nobunaga who had to war against his brothers and exile others.]
[So winding up on a distant bubble universe ship where none of the status was an obstacle and being able to make friends with explorers, and yanno sex-cultist weirdos, was the chance beyond a lifetime (literally, couldn't get in his lifetime) for Nobunaga.]
Though it's very difficult for me to go easy on anyone. Perhaps even impossible. [Can't hold back... THOUGH TO BE FAIR IF THEY HAVE MAGIC POWERS EVEN IF HE GOES ALL OUT HE CAN'T DO SHIT EITHER!!!!]
But this is fine. Words from friends are never lethal weapons, such is their power.
You've told me what you don't like, and I can't imagine you care much about his affinity for household items or money. [Owari is/was the poorest province, and had not enough land or resources for anything, their chief export is/was pottery because the land was too clay-filled for agriculture, so they did their best with what they had, but still, Nobunaga was born in a castle, rode horses before he could walk, and never personally starved. He hasn't lost his edge for wanting JAPAN to be prosperous, even more than America someday, but Demon Kings don't seek people with money to fill their own gaps. Demon Kings seek power and --]
[Well Klaus is just...]
[It's a lot.]
[His best friend also. But Klaus more vibes with Nobunaga for Nobuanga's rich vibes. Point being--]
You mentioned he is reliable, [Like Hideyoshi??? Perhaps?] but for him to be your best friend, surely there is more?
[Holds a hand up.] If you can't explain it don't worry. [Side glance. NO NEED TO BRING BACK THE CRABS. THIS SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING THEY WOULD DIG!?!?] I can't explain Klaus very well either after all.

[She just found it pretty embarrassing, and the last thing she wanted was singing sea life to gossip about her and Kazuma.
Anymore than they have already.]Unlike any other man I know, Kazuma treats people pretty equally, regardless of gender. He's actually brilliant when it comes to planning, and died more than once to help us! He's always helped me on pursuing what I most wanted in life, even though everyone thinks I'm crazy for wanting the things I do. He carries me home when I'm too weak to move, and has never taken advantage of me when I was weak and defenseless despite being a pervert.
[She could trust him at her most vulnerable, which she might not if she were alone with many other guys in that position.]
He respects the power of my magic, and even gave me a place by his side when no other adventuring party would take me. I think... that mostly covers it.
1/2
[Nobunaga needs sleep. Or something.]
[It's the the weirdness of being home-ish but not Japan. The Hell he kind of made up in his head as existing only after being introduced to the reality of gods and souls and something real even if the monks got most of it wrong.]
[The fiction blurring.]
[It's too quiet, but he can't handle the singing sea life so he'll take it.]
[He looks up at the sky finally noticing it's real. It's been a long long time. He wonders if Tayrey would appreciate that, or still freak out over the paperwork and/death.]
Equality...
[It's another single word more imparted with deep substantial meaning to Nobunaga than other words can express. Like "Explosion" to Megumin probably. He remembers how often he fought, literally warred to upend the castes for it, and how damn complicated Nobunaga's views on gender equality were with Tayrey (female, but so far from the future such things ceased to matter) and his army, the desire to have women be allowed to do as they please, but weighing against the propensity for abuse where they could still be forced by others to battle in that case. And if the idea was to end the wars, you had to start with letting people NOT go to war too.]
[It was why Oda's first friend Crichton has his undying love and admiration though. Crichton was incapable of treating anyone differently for any reason. Alien, gender, status, violent tendencies and all. Perfect for the demon king who was a bit of a wreck when he was transported through a wormhole unsure of everything and everyone, but so used to war, and only war, that even a dream come true like being freed from that seemed a trap to attack.]
[Crichton's also just really really cool according to Oda, he'll die on that hill.]
2/2
[Nobunaga gets up again, signaling with his hands for her to wait.]
[At least he's numb and not crying or wibbly, gods he could not fucking live with himself to be that uncool after all that!]
[He returns with some drinks.]
There's no alcohol in it, not because of us being demons where we don't belong, [Aka: he didnt ask or care about age or drinking laws anywhere or when!] but because I try not to drink so much for my partner's sake. Though alcohol is every god's greatest vice, and some priests, and can banish certain weaker demons, we are not that weak. [Genuinely. Nobunaga can't drink enough to keep up with an oni, but he can definitely drink a LOT. It's just he also gets more violent and that's too stupid first day in heaven before he has his emotional support blanket/spouse, and he wasn't lying. Klaus had since substituted drinking for sugar with Nobunaga, so Nobunaga didn't drink either except very special occasions. He never wanted Klaus to miss out.]
[So he hands her a fruity mocktail all the same.] Kanpai.
Sounds like your friend is one of a kind, both good or bad. Which is a small shame, because maybe the world needs more like him. Then again, sometimes worlds can't handle just the one of us.
Equality is perhaps even more foreign in my time in Japan than in your world. We don't have magic after all, so circumstances of birth dictate far too much. [Aka no loli mages!!! And even the priesteses were kind of having it rough with the Buddhism. If he could go backwards in time he'd bitchslap certain people but as it is, his ultimate goal is to upend and do away with the birth dictating everything.] But the first friend I ever had treats everyone equally, even a demon king so it meant more than a world to me. [Small fist clench!] Still does.
I think desires are all fine and well, but it's the actions that matter most. I told my second in command this constantly. Even if I want to burn my world down in a temper, what matters is what I do with the desire instead. And words are just words without the actions. Sometimes it's easier to be hated than not. [Ugh too deep and introspective and you'll not get him to life the veil that easily! Even Klaus struggled with it!]
I'll not underestimate him, of course, but thank you for telling me. [Nod!] I'll stay open minded, and I'm looking forward to meeting him whenever opportunity arises.

Uhhh...
[She was going to ask if he was okay but then-]
2/4
3/4
Nobody ever lets me drink alcohol!
[She's not grumpy... okay yes she is, but she's not going to pout over it! She's just going to sip her fruit juice cocktail... LIKE A CHILD!
Even if it's pretty good.]4/4
He just... uh... sometimes lets his desires compromise his principles which makes him less likable.
[She still wants to make sure he understands... the man can still be utterly hopeless at times.]

Later. When I can oni rampage to my heart's delight. Sake is dangerous for me, and rum is even worse.
Men are like that, no matter what world or country. If Klaus were here I'd leave it to them to discuss, but I'd like to think people would say the same of me. No, let me correct that. I'd like to think Tayrey would say that of me. In general, I'm fine with people hating me. Tayrey's my second in command though. She's a lot like you, very brilliant, but often underestimated for being an astrogator instead of an enforcer looking type. Mage instead of crusader, but with star travel and physics, she's very skeptical. She doesn't get along with Mitsuhude either, but given how much she's like Hideyoshi in personality, I wasn't surprised.

[She had also heard some people argue they were the first potions, but she's still speculative of that herself.]
I've never had alcohol myself, so I have no way of knowing what effect it will have on me yet. Perhaps when the time comes for a pre-combat toast in a battle I'm sitting out? A manly duel between you and some false god or goddess?
[Hopefully not Aqua, but one can never know for sure what that woman will think. It seems Megumin is too caught up on the whole booze thing now.]

Sake usually tastes the best after you've earned it from such warfare, and there's only one god I'll ever drink with. [Yato. His "boss." Because Yato is the arguably lowest-ranked god of 6 billion in Shintoism, so of course Nobunaga latched onto him instantly.] It doesn't always increase battle lust. Sometimes it can put people to sleep if they've been working too hard. The dragon in my army [Remember: HE HAS NO MAGIC IN HIS WORLD?! Yes. That's important.] is often pranked by the kitsune, and goes out after one cup. Well, the dragon is always in high gear, and has a heightened sense of taste for food [Aka: he cooks.] so he's more susceptible to such things. The kitsune incidentally can't be tricked. You can't trick a trickster. But don't rely on waiting to see what effect it'll have. It's definitely better to find out casually before you need to know.
The monkey becomes completely honest. It's the only way he'll drop his mask of manners. But if it increased his battlelust, the world would be long since destroyed. The only thing holding my right hand back from killing everyone and everything is me. [That's... kind of true.] Incidentally, he's the one who'd be in heaven. But if he got drunk on peaches, he'd get himself kicked out like Sun Wukong. [This is getting silly. Er... sillier.] Ranmaru gets cuddly though. So you really can't rely on it. He's a demon general in his own right, and has a kill count higher than many demon lords we've faced, but enough sake and he relaxes into a state of childishness.
My first friend completely drank me under twice in a row in our contests. He's an explorer of the stars and the dark spaces beyond, so it's small wonder he has such a high resistance. ["Resistance." More like... doesn't know when to stop.] But he's the one who never changes his tone no matter who's he addressing. He'll say things like, [SUPER DRAMATIC POSE!] "What do I want on my tombstone? Pepperoni." And then I forced him to explain both pepperoni and "commercials," and did put that on the marker for his death.
I'm not very fond of the western drinks, wine or ales. They're too uncultured and unsophisticated for me. [He is genuinely a big SAKE IS THE BEST AND WE MUST MAKE IT CONQUER THE OTHERS kind of dude.] But rum isn't bad. It's nice and sweet. It's a little associated with pirates in the future, I think more for its location than preference. But avoid absinthe. I drank it when Crichton died and I first met Tayrey. I don't remember much, but I remember the glowing green cauldron and that I vowed never again. [... Dramatic but there you have it.]
