[OOPS YOU DIED. WELCOME TO THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL. If you're new here, have a sheep cherub or imp slap a "HI MY NAME IS--" sticker on you, and frantically explain "DON'T WORRY, WE'RE WORKING ON IT, WE'LL HAVE YOU OUT HERE....AT...SOME POINT..." Wack. Also, you may noticed that your body may or may not have changed. What's up with that??? Who cares, at least you have as spiffy new cell phone! You're also told you're free to take the elevators up to Heaven or down to Hell. Good luck!

In the mean time--join the garden party that's going on! Or at least, it seems like a party?? Except all they are serving is pie. Apple pie. Blueberry pie. The classics. For you more Carnivorous types, there's stuff like mince pie, and...the name is smudged, but maybe don't eat that one unless you're a cannibal.

But along with a variety of normal pies, if you accidentally eat a weird pie, your character might experience the following:
Vinegar Pie - It's tasty but suddenly you're compelled to blurt out an Insult or ruthlessly tease the next person you see.
"Sweet" Potato - If you're a normally grumpy or aggro character, this pie will suddenly make you want to be more affectionate! This can be anything from wanting to hold hands or saying genuine nice things.
Humble Pie - Suddenly you feel complimenting or praising others and might downplay your own achievements, or insult yourself.

You can probably shake off the effects, but hey. Free pie!! ]

B) LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE (HELL LEVEL)
[TIME TO EXPLORE. Today in the Hell Level, the Hotel (Ho-hell? Helll-tel? Okay just Hotel) it's time for spring cleaning! Wait, didn't they just have that? An Imp says yes, but this is a different type of cleaning. Time to TAKE OUT THE TRASH!!!!

Which is to say, out of no where you might receive a PUNCH in the face by a local, or an imp! If the latter it's like being bapped by a sick little lamb. Still, even if a local punches you, you suddenly heal immediately? That's right, TODAY ONLY, this is a 'get into a scrap injury free' spring holiday, and you can rough house as much as you want with each other today in the Hotel, and NO DAMAGE will remain! Ever wanted to get cut in half and suddenly stitch back together? WELL TODAY'S YOUR LUCKY DAY.

If you're not into PG rated guro however, why don't you try exploring:
-The clubs! The nightlife in hell is FANTASTIC and genuinely fun!
-Games! Along with casinos galore, there are also normal arcades! Any game you can imagine, it exists.
-Or explore parts of Hell's Hotel that don't involve getting into a dogpile! ]

C) MARCH COMES IN LIKE....(HEAVEN LEVEL)
[TODAY IN HEAVEN THOUGH, there are advertisements for the ZOO!! A zoo in heaven?? Fuck yea!! But when you get there you see nothing but...........lions. And lambs. Just, everywhere. They aren't fighting though, but being super cute and soft and have tiny wings. You can pet them and pick them up--well the lambs at least. The lion might crush you. But you're dead anyway so give it a shot champ!!

Local angels explain that every 'spring' the zoo does this, and it's a sign of good fortune! You might wonder why you need good fortune in Heaven, but fuck it, when it Rome!! If you stick around long enough the zoo will change back to 'normal' and you can find other animals to gawk at.

If zoos aren't your thing though, check out heaven's:
-BEACH!! How is there an ocean and sandy white beach in the sky! Who cares, it's heaven! Beach episode time!
-Coffee shops! There are no coffee shops in hell! LIVE YOUR COFFEE AU DREAMS.
-Or just explore the Heavenly hotel in general!]

[Dad's trying to help... she's not used to being so open hugged by him, but he's trying to help so she bears with it.]

Um... imagine Heaven was divided into two sides... one who supported the idea of the Hazbin Hotel, and one that decided it didn't really matter? Imagine the exorcists fly back to Heaven with Adam dead. --Maybe the peaceful angels now control what Heaven does? Or maybe they become vengeful angels who want revenge? Maybe there's a split between them where they can't resolve their differences? ...Especially if the hotel does work at some point?

Dad, what if I just caused a civil war throughout heaven, and their solution was to just... you know... send us away?

[ hooo, boy. okay, this is a rough one. lucifer is decisive: he's not going to be dismissive, he's not going to be up his own ass about how he knows more about heaven than charlie (even though he does, painfully so), and he's not going to fuck this up. ]

Charlie...

[ yeah, that's all he's got at first. give him a second. he stalls for time by tipping her face to look at him and offering a little smile. ]

I know you care. I know you care so, so much more than anyone else has ever been capable of caring. Of loving the people of Hell. You got that from— You got that from your mother.

[ it's hard to do this here. it's really hard but he's trying. ]

With that in mind, I need you to believe me when I tell you that Heaven's united front, their main goal, has always been homogeny. Perfection when no one is actually perfect. Not even dear old Dad. [ god, not lucifer. everyone knows lucifer isn't perfect, that's the joke. ] If there were to be a civil war in Heaven, which would be very difficult to induce, we would be the least of their problems. They would be so focused on making each other bend to the other's side and beliefs that they'd forget about us entirely.

[ he takes a breath and lets it out slowly. ]

If anything, they'd just send all the supporters of the hotel down to Hell. [ a little wry: ] Trust me on this one, Charlie. I know.

[ of course he does. from experience. heaven sending people places is never about ignoring them, it's all about punishing them. a place with an open elevator between heaven and hell is not, technically, a punishment.

certainly not one cruel enough for heaven to have made. ]

[She meekly watches his face as he talks. She can't help feeling like a child again getting a real life lesson from her parent. Only while others were dismissive... this one makes sense.

On the one hand, the thought that what she did to help sinners with her hotel just didn't matter: heart-breaking.

On the other, the idea that angels would just forget about Hell and focus on putting down all dissent, even that born out of truth, fairness, and justice... it's too much in line with what she observed in Heaven.]

Okay. [A softer, calmer breath.] I trust you. ...Dad.

[She brings up a hand to give his a little pat, then pull it away so he can hold it.]

But, thank you. --For honestly listening.

[ it takes a lot for lucifer to keep it together for that conversation. but he is capable of it, and managed it, even if his kneejerk instinct is still to be... well.

one of his faults is pride, after all, and it's hard to let go of a 'father knows best' mentality, which is really ironic, all things considered. so it's good to take the step.

it's good to hear charlie say she trusts him, even if it has to be about something like this.

he squeezes her hand and offers her a little smile. ]

You've grown more than I ever realized before all of this. I need to remember that you're not the little girl I held in my arms anymore. You deserve to have me listen to you.

[ whew, this is too much. he's not sure how much more genuine emotion he can take right now, and charlie needs some levity he's pretty sure.

But hey, let's focus on the current issues for now. Obviously this place is a pale imitation of the real thing, but do you wanna see if I can show you some of the coolest parts I remember? If they're here, of course!

[She can't help but hide her face in her hands, embarrassed.] Oh, Dad... I know.

[So many emotions now... ones that had been building since she found herself here and realized it was no longer 'their' Hell. Well, not officially.]

I would like that. We'll worry about the rest later. Some place we can de-stress a little? Work ourselves up to the ones with the coolest stuff to see.

[She needed a little time to de-stress.]

Someplace we can de-stress a little... Yeah, I've got just the place. C'mon, Charlie!

[ he's happy to show charlie this, let her see something she never would have otherwise. and as he leads her through the garden he points out things of interest, things he could never forget no matter how many eons had passed.

but a part of him also sinks with each step, with each new sight he can share. it's so much the same, so much with so many memories, that by the time they reach where he's leading her, he almost expects to see the first humans to walk out of some nearby brush.

he feels a profound melancholy about it, about how things had been and could have been if heaven hadn't done what it had done. he still doesn't regret giving humans free will, but that doesn't mean the memories of adam and eve smiling at him with genuine love and wonder even after he'd spirited lilith away, of what adam had twisted into becoming later, don't haunt him.

anyway! his demeanor is still upbeat and as cheery as anything when they reach a small pool in a clearing, with lush flora all around. he drops to the edge of it and holds out his hand for charlie to sit next to him. ]

The most relaxing place in the whole garden.

[It's nice to walk with Dad on equal footing. She didn't need him to carry her through the air. Not this time. It gives him the space he needs to see what he wants, and re-introduce himself to it as well. She can't help glancing an eye at him once in a while too, confirming her intuition.

Of course, she gently takes his hand and sits right down.]

...I'm glad you're showing me. I'm glad you're here.

[ for just the barest of moments, he doesn't answer. lucifer sits, staring down into the water, struck with a memory so vivid that he almost, almost gets lost in it before he physically shakes himself out of it and squeezes charlie's hand, looking over at her next to him and smiling.

it's melancholy, of course it is, but there's that look he gets on his face like charlie is his whole world. ]

It may be a replica, but I never even considered ever being able to.

[ he takes a deep breath and sighs, tipping his head back into the sunlight with his eyes closed. then, as he once again turns back to her: ]

Hey, did I ever tell you that Adam wasn't always an incurable asshole? Always an idiot, of course, haha! But... different.

...Would you be surprised if I told you I believe you?

[She smiles with all the optimism she has at her father's revelation.]

I've always believed everyone has good inside them. --Even Adam. So...

[She gives a shrug, as if to say "there you go!" before following it up with a little laugh.]

From you? No, not surprised. That's just like you.

[ he sounds fond when he says it. that's his little girl, just like her mother in so many ways.

then, with a huff of breath: ]

He got angry and bitter after everything. He'd been happy with how things were, so why would he have ever needed to know anything more? Ignorance is bliss, after all! But even then, he wasn't...

[ what he'd finally become. ]

I don't know what Heaven did to him, but he wasn't like that when he was alive. A pity. He could've been a good man.

[She felt goose chills run up her spine. She knew this wasn't a subject he wanted to talk about it. She knew she didn't have the full context, even after actually going there. But...

There's at least one person she know she needs to stick up for. Who deserves it.]

Dad, I know... I know Heaven's hurt you. That it hurt you even before Eden. It's always singled you out. Because, you had the capacity to dream while a lot of them didn't.

--But there are good angels in Heaven. Angels who believe in things like 'virtue'. Angels who were willing to go so far as to stand with me and sing "If Hell is forever, then Heaven must be a lie," with all their heart.

[She shudders at recalling the memory, at the emotions it roused.]

Her name was Emily, and... I do truly believe she's on our side. If it gets her banished, then...

[...she'll let it happen, that was the obvious conclusion.]

But, we don't know Heaven can't change.

One good angel doesn't mean anything for the rest of Heaven.

[ it's carefully metered. so careful, because every instinct he has is to just let it out, all of it, but charlie doesn't deserve that. he's certainly not mad at her for being hopeful, for believing in the good in people, but he can't change. not now.

he takes a slow breath. in, out. keep your shit together, lucifer. ]

I believe that your friend can be good. But if she truly is, they'll kick her out. That's just how Heaven works, Charlie! They take anyone that thinks differently from them and treat them like they're—like they're some kind of monster.

[ when lucifer, the first and the favorite and the most loved, could go from that to what he'd become in a slow descent just because he wanted something different and better... and of course, then the sheer drop once he'd toppled off the precipice. ]

I'm sorry, Charlie. I can't believe that Heaven will ever change.

[ because if they can change, that means that everything they did to him, to everyone and everything he's ever loved, was for nothing. ]

... [baby steps. things take time to change. It was true about Redemption and surely it must be true about Dad's view about Heaven. --If he's even wrong.]

Well, how about looking at it like this? If I'm right... Heaven will change. For the better. If you're right... I'll have another friend to introduce to you.

[ at that, he laughs. it's clear he's trying, because it only sounds a little bitter, but he nods nonetheless. ]

Alright. I'll take that wager.

...Thanks, Dad.

[She turns back to the pool; Admiring the stillness. There's a certain beauty here, something that she could want to spend hours in this moment...]

[It takes her a long set of moments, but her facial expression slowly changes from admiration to apprehension in small stages before she finally raises her voice and disturbs the silence again.]

Whoa. Dad. [pause] Isn't it like it's too calm? --To a weird degree.

Of course, Charlie. I promised to be better for you and, well...

[ he's really trying.

in contrast to charlie's growing aprehension, lucifer ends up slowly sinking back until he's laying on the grass next to her to the point where he blinks up at her when she speaks, sitting up again. ]

That's just how things are in the Garden, that's what everything used to be like. Nothing really happened except the miracle of creation, yadda yadda yadda. I get it can be unsettling if you're not used to it though, haha! Do you want to move on?

...Yes. Yes. I would.

[she stands up]

It's definitely weird in a 'do things not change here?' sense. This doesn't feel like a calm moment. It feels like it's just... a calm moment that would stretch out a really long time? Into eternity? Then, it's not even a moment anymore. I mean, obviously it's not, if it's eternity! But...

[She blinks, then gives her Dad a look. A look that says... she thinks she really is beginning to comprehend why he wanted to gift humans free will. Beyond feelings evoked from reading her book about the story of hell.]

Oh, they don't change! Ever.

[ hahaha...ha...ha... he's fine. it's fine! the look charlie gives him stills him a moment though; just a moment. he takes a breath and gives her a cautious smile, then hops to his feet and holds out his hand to her again.

he knows she doesn't need it. that's not the point. ]

You've been around long enough to explore Heaven, huh?

[ not that he wants to spend any more time there than strictly necessary, but... ]

[She kinda shrugs.]

Well, it was just a day, and the creepy embassy...

[pause]

Oh, you mean this heaven! A little bit. I did some busking. Got a little bit of tips! Made friends with angels and demons who were up there for some reason.

Yeah, I meant this one.

[ ah yes, the Morningstar ditziness... she did inherit some things from her father. ]

I gotta admit, the moving back and forth at will thing is really weird, haha! After eons of being told it's a one-way ticket, there's just an elevator in this version and you can do whatever you want!

[ oh no, he's turning into a heaven-hating freak again. the menty b this man is going to have is extremely imminent. he takes a deep breath. ]

... I'm glad you're making friends.

It's fine! ...You might get some weird looks. But, you're still King of Hell! I mean... I've been telling people I'm Princess of Hell.

[She didn't think it was that awkward to claim that title anymore.]

Thanks! [She gives a nervous laugh. Charlie felt a little too old to be congratulated for making friends, but why say anything?] I'm sure you will, too?

Charlie, people have no idea who I am here. I don't think there is a King of Hell in this place, but if there is it certainly isn't me.

[ but he doesn't seem... he doesn't seem put out by that. it does sound like something he doesn't want to think about too hard, but he can at least talk about it briefly, mention it offhand, play at fake outrage over it like he's some kind of soccer mom demanding to see someone's manager when HE'S supposed to be the manager. ]

... Haha, yeah, maybe!

[ that's not precisely what he meant: someone from hell making friends with angels is unheard of, and here charlie is, talking about it like it's the easiest thing in the world. and maybe, for charlie, it is. angels here he's not too worried about, but he keeps thinking back to the angel she said she befriended in real heaven.

despite everything he's said, he really, really hopes they don't hurt that poor girl like they hurt him. ]
